This snarky to-do between Mr. Blair and my press brethren reminds me so much of guys in the schoolyard bragging, "Mine's longer."

Still, I believe in the adversarial relationship between politicians and journalists. I just find it so damn funny when the journos protest so loudly when the politician is doin' the adversarying instead of the other away 'round ...

Yeah I'd be interested in your response to Jim's question.

The Pretender to the Throne (Blair) was a crusader...always abroad (mentally, physically..any which way he could be). He was so busy trying to be some kind of international globe trotting pseudo rock star that he forgot Britain itself needs good strong governance.

..and I do not credit Blair with anything regarding the debacle over Princess Diana's death. The people were going nuts (reflected and stirred by the media). No doubt it was his Press Secretary who advised him what to do...

I can say "was", hooray. He is nearly out the door...

Well, as athletes are so fond of saying these days, Denny, "It is what it is." I have no idea what motivates the strong response from the media to Blair's accusations and remonstrations - that he became a Bushevik? Maybe that's enough, but for the guy who saved the monarchy (well, E2's bacon when she'd absolutely misplayed the royal hand dealing with the Diana business), the reaction seems over the top. I'm not as up on Brit politics as I should be, but is all this a result of Blair's foreign policy - or venting over his domestic failures?

Or does the press just feel this defensive these days because of industry stresses and is lashing out because they see Blair as trying to shift the issue from his failed policies to their failed policies?

Just askin'.... ;-)

A lot of what he said had merit and I watched the debate last night:

...but I still cannot stomach the man.
