Thompson liked charismatic idealists who could also walk the walk. He’d hate all the candidates right now, with the possible exception of Obama; he needed one person to like so he could keep going. But nah… he was done. He’d hate it today. No one would be listening anyway, the blogosaurs would be calling him a washed-up, irrelevant old hack.

This election will perhaps be the most fascinating in U.S. history. So many interests have so much money and so much to lose. Several candidates on both sides of the aisle have already built up unprecedented war chests for this early in the race. With darkhorses on both sides like Bloomberg and Gore, there’s no way to realistically handicap this race. Rudy’s left of center stand on issues could alienate his party’s base (and lead). I don’t really see Hillary and Barack joining forces. We could easily see candidates from both sides of the aisle with $10s of millions, turning their backs on their parties and running as independents. Maybe Unity’08 isn’t so far fetched. I really think HST cashed out his chips too soon. He’d be loving the crazy odds on this one.

I give him a shiny penny for saying oil companies have failed to invest in alternative energy sources, at least.
And hey, the public tries. Let’s start up a petition! Or better yet, start an viral email, Don’t Buy Gas and Go to Your Local Conoco and Tell the Immigrant Working Behind the Counter That His Corporate Masters Should Invest in Alternate Energy Sources Day! We can make it on a Friday too, that’s when all the other important things that everyone doesn’t hear about happen.

His analysis of the public’s opinion on energy is on the disingenuous side, don’t you think? The public isn’t clamoring for specific technologies, they’re interested in affordable energy. I imagine they’d be good with cheese-mining the moon if it worked….
