Our nation is overrun with people who think it's wrong to dissent. Wrong to criticize the president. Wrong to voice complaints about the government.

Funny thing is, I don't remember these same people believing these things prior to the election of George Walker Bush. I especially don't remember hearing these opinions from about January of 1993 up to Dubya's inauguration.

Let's keep track. I want to see if dissent remains an evil, anti-American activity if Hillary is elected.

Denny wrote: "Sen. Thompson is certainly right that today is a 'different' time — but the role of dissent by citizens is written into the Constitution and transcends political and historical eras. He has begun his campaign by arguing that dissent — and not incompetence or cowardice on the part of Republican and Democratic leaders — is at the root of the nation’s problems of perception at home and abroad.

"That’s not a credible argument, and no one should swallow it."

The second part of that first sentence is as clear a statement of what citizen responsibility is as I've seen in a long time, Denny. Thanks.

And that zinger closing - that his claim that dissent is the problem is not a credible argument - should be part of every news story on Thompson that appears from now until he drops out of the race in humiliation for having said such a thing.

As Sherlock Holmes used to say, "There's evil afoot" - and we should be fighting it as hard as we can....
