Polymerase Chain Reaction, the self-assembly technique by which DNA is sequenced. It was a huge breakthrough when it was first developed. The idea is that you chop the DNA up into lots of little bits which are then replicated in a bath of DNA components (the GTAC “letters” of DNA) lots and lots and lots of times. Then you use a powerful computer to match up the ends of the bits to make a complete gene or chromosome.
