Well, don't be afraid to put on your tinfoil hat from time to time, Brian. You'd be astonished at how it makes seemingly random events so clearly connected. :)

Seriously, I have no doubt that in the halls of power, somewhere, this exact agenda has been discussed. Remember, Kevin Martin--FCC head--is a close ally of Bush and Cheney and has done their bidding to ensure these abuses of power never got investigated. He operates on one level, McConnell another, and so on.

All cogs in the greater machine, with the end result being corporate and government control of our communications to a degree unforeseen in our experience.

I can't help but think that the re-formation of the telephony monopoly as permitted and accelerated by the FCC and the Bush Administration just makes these kinds of abuses easier than they would be otherwise.

I'm not trying to imply a conspiracy in this regard, just noting a very annoying and frustrating correlation.

Bush authorizes the NSA to police the Internet–but it’ll be AT&T doing the policing...

Bush has signed a classified directive authorizing the NSA to monitor federal Internet networks--but will it really stop there? And who will help the NSA do this?...
