I played those two records so much I nearly wore through the vinyl, esp. Queen II.

I saw Queen at Cole Field house in the late 70s. Great concert, spoiled only by being surrounded by @#%$ Terps! I also owned the first two albums and learned the lyrics by heart.

Thanks Sam. I’m too young to have ever seen Queen in concert but their Live Aid performance goes down in history and I recognized its power even back then at a young age. I love seeing footage of Freddie come out in crown and robe for a concert-ending final bow to God Save the Queen – so much you can take away from that moment even though they always said they were a non-political band. Queen was bigger in Canada than the States, I think – we’re kind of between the two musical worlds of the US and UK, plus we love our R&R up here.

There was only one Freddie and he’ll be loved forever.

Since it’s your birthday, Dr. S — wish you a happy one (36, right?) — I won’t tell you what I really think of Queen.

Guess this means I have to sit through these videos with my 13-year-old boy, who swears by them.

In all fairness, they’re much better than I remembered them. In fact, Brian May rocks — and rules!

(Really strange, though, to see the great Paul Rodgers of Free and Bad Company fame fronting the latter-day version of the band.)
