I've donated to and voted for Hillary in her past Senate races (and for Bill in the Presidential races), and will gladly vote for her in November if she's the democratic nominee. I don't see cause to call her "evil" or demonize her in any way; she's a consumate politician, which is both a positive and a negative. Much like Bill.

That said, I am supporting Obama in this election. I am frankly amazed that he is garnering such widespread support, and pleased to see in photos of his campaign stops that he is surrounded by mostly white faces. The country may have finally moved beyond the cursed "Bradley effect." I hope.

I also feel that Obama will be the strongest candidate in November, for these reasons:
1. He is motivating a large youth turnout, who might be discouraged if HRC is elected despite their efforts.
2. He is proving to be more popular with Independents, who will be influential in November.
3. McCain is not motivating the fundamentalist base of the Republicans, indeed there may be enough dislike of him to keep many conservatives away from the polls.
4. However irrational it may be, there is enough hatred of the Clintons in this country to bring conservatives of all stripes to the polls. Ari hinted at this. It would be the perfect antidote to the anti-McCain sentiment.

Obama isn't perfect, and anyone who expects that needs to wake up. While he doesn't have the experience in Washington that HRC & McC do, he has handled himself well during his rapid ascendency and has created an amazing campaign team.

The most important thing that Obama brings to the table is that he inspires. I think that HRC falls into the category of Gore and Kerry -- brilliant politicians who failed to inspire the voting populace.

Cathexis said: Whichever wins, will do a great job (hell of a lot better than any GOP possibility!).

Given the current situation, it's entirely possible that I could vote for McCain over either Obama or Hillary, and I'm a Democrat. It's scary to consider, given how bad McCain is, but all three are within my personal margin of error on the issues that matter most to me. And on the issues that REALLY matter, they're all pretty much equally bad.

If McCain is the Republican candidate, based off what I see right now, I will have a hard time choosing regardless of who the Democratic candidate is. Unless Edwards somehow wins the nomination.

Amazing. You acknowledge the guy is a know liar, yet you pass on something he said as true because it supports your bias. No one with a bit of sense should believe one word that comes out of his Rove infected mouth, and yet you do. Unbelievable.

For the record I'm an Obama voter.

"Maybe its because she’s a woman and women ought to know their place, in the kitchen and bedroom, otherwise be seen and not heard. She’s pretty evil alright."

Elisabeth,

I'm sorry if you think this is the issue, it is not. Her voting record is. Taken along with her husbands record there is no way I could vote for her and I stand behind my view of her as evil. As far a a woman being in power there are many women out there I would vote for but she will NEVER be one of them. I personally know a number of the bloggers on this site as well as many of the people who comment and they can tell you I am not ant woman but I am very much anti Billery.

Nope, I don't buy it.

1. Asserting that the "rabid, mindless Clinton hatred" (which does, admittedly exist) would be a stronger Rightwing incentive than good old-fashioned racial bigotry is claiming alot.

2. Clinton has high negatives. Now. She's also pretty much at her ceiling. the Republican Attack Teams (RATs) *will* go after whomever the Dem nominee is, like a pack of pitbulls on a porkchop. What they can't spin, they'll just make up -- they're not restrained by Truth. By November, our Dem nominee will have high negatives ... whoever it is. Obama will just have further to fall. Remember Swiftboating last time, against our "more electable candidate" John Kerry?
3. You seriously underestimate the hatred that the radical right has for McCain. I have family and acquaintences who are in that camp and they would rather stay home than vote for McCain. It's not a ploy. McCain has committed the one unforgiveable sin among wingnuts: He questioned George W Bush, during a Herd Mentality period. traitorous dog! ;-D

Hillary and Obama are both fine candidates and we shouyld be proud to field them. Whichever wins, will do a great job (hell of a lot better than any GOP possibility!). HOWEVER, neither of them is inherently "more electable."

Ari Fleischer? Are you kidding me? What is it about my old home town of New Canaan, Connecticut (1973-2000)?

New Canaan has produced Ari Fleischer, Ann Coulter, and L. Paul (Jerry) Bremer, the late-lamented plenipotentiary of Baghdad.. It's also the place where Brian (Blowdry) Williams lives. It was once a nice town, but it's now the repository for discredited GOP hacks.

The only Democrat candidate that could reliably win in November was Edwards, but the corporate DLC and MSM torpedoed him. Unfortunately, McCain will be the next president - eight more years of war crimes, eight more years of war profiteers stealing from our grandkids.

I just wish I knew some of that "evilness" of Hillary. Let's see, was it her efforts toward getting health care for all americans, not just the richest ones? her efforts in humanitarian work? that's pretty evil but I'm not sure its quite up there with invading another country (or two, possibly three). Maybe its because she's a woman and women ought to know their place, in the kitchen and bedroom, otherwise be seen and not heard. She's pretty evil alright.

Not exactly identical voting records. Hillary voted against the cluster bomb ban; Obama voted to ban them. This false argument about his speech in 2002: it was an act of political courage at that time: he had started his run for the primary for the Illinois Senate. Everyone expected it to torpedo his political career. Show me one progressive cause --just one -- that HIllary has championed against the political winds. She caves. Bill caved. She's a warmonger in order to look "tough". I'd rather have strength instead of her ability to fight the Republican slime machine that she's a magnet for.

"McCain keeps hammering away on the war, because that’s one issue where honor is at stake, even if the mission itself is/was fucked."

And we all know Billery has no honor!

"Now I’m convinced that McCain would don blackface and host his own traveling minstrel show if it would get him into the White House."

It would backfire. I don't think he wants to be accused of hypocrisy after being sunk in 2000 by the SC "black child" debacle... and I don't think he wants to begin using blatant Bush/Rove dirty tricks, ordinary Republicans are sick of that crap. It would only work on Hillary because GOPers already hate her guts.

Against Obama the GOP will need to depend on racism, John McCain will not stand for any of that.

I would have believed that once upon a time. Now I'm convinced that McCain would don blackface and host his own traveling minstrel show if it would get him into the White House.

Anyone who doesn't believe that Hillary represents a gigantic target for the GOP slime machine is living in a fantasy. Hillary can't separate herself from McCain on Iraq without being the new "flip-flop" artist ... I was for it before I was against it all over again. Clinton's votes against the Levin amendment and for the Kyl-Lierberman non binding amendment adds more fuel for attacking her. Of course Hillary's vote in support of the draconian bankruptcy bill ( until she changed her mind ) will also haunt her.

Lemme tell you folks ... you'll be seeing video clips of Hillary showing emotion with the voice-over saying something like, " it's a tough world that needs tougher leaders", it may have helped pander for votes but it's gonna stick around her neck like an albatross.

Jay,
Take it from a republican. I will vote for Obama if he is nominated but if her evilness is nominated I'll vote for Satan (AKA another BUSH) before I'd vote for her. ANYTHING is the lesser evil compared to her.
