Well, if we knew all 2,000 names, how could we possibly learn something about all 2,000, not to mention learning something about the jobs they perform, some of which are pretty obscure?

I just have to figure that, if I choose the candidate that comes closest to caring about the things I care about and approaching issues the way I approach them, it's very likely that candidate will make appointments that closely mirror those things.

Really, I don't see any other choice.

2,000 men and women we’ve never heard of appointed and confirmed to government posts we’ve never heard of.

For a candidate to expect us to trust him or her with that without naming any of them is asking us to take an awful lot on faith.

You're right, we'll never get the answers we need. I guess all we can do is make some educated guesses and pray we're educated enough. For my part, I'm going to be looking damned hard at whom the candidates are likely to appoint to the Supreme Court. That's not all the puzzle, but it's significant. I guess we might suspect that SC appointments correlate with the other things we care about, but if you're thinking that I'm doing a hell of a lot of blind speculating here, you're right.

And no, I'm not real happy about that.

It is through appointments to judgeships, cabinet posts and other executive branch positions that presidents implement their policies and impress their will upon government and therefore the governed....
