Elaine - the problem that McIntyre hasn't answered is why what the GISS equation that he posted, and the resulting changes thereof, are fundamentally wrong. As someone who works with math for a living (I'm an EE), there are equations and datasets that only make sense and can only be interpreted if you have the entire lifetime of data available. Engineers try to avoid that kind of data because it's hard to work with, but sometimes its unavoidable.

I'm glad that Climate Audit keeps on top of Hansen et al, because McIntyre has found some serious problems that needed to be fixed. Whether this equation is one of those problems is, as yet, unknown. I hope he gets to the bottom of it, because frankly, if there is a significant bias in the data caused by an erroneous equation, then the data needs to be corrected. But at this point it just a concern that needs to be tracked down and understood.

Slammy - You're seeing more than that, actually. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, and what you're seeing is local concentrations of the gas that can vary 10x more on a daily basis than the yearly increase in the entire atmosphere. As such, there's a chance that the local concentrations of CO2 are partly responsible for local temperature increases.

It's an area that I hope that some climate scientist(s) will take a close look at. Because it has implications regarding positive feedback - your local CO2 emissions make the days hotter, so you use the AC more often, burning more gasoline and coal, releasing more CO2 emissions. I'm not an expert, but it certainly raises some interesting new questions.

What I'd really like to see is Vulcan expanded to cover every nation in the world where pollutants are monitored similarly to the U.S., and then an atmospheric transfer model applied to all of them to see how CO2 mixes into the atmosphere, what weather does to it, etc.

I'm no scientist, but as I watched the video above I had a thought. What we're seeing is undeniable - a massive dump of CO2 into the atmosphere. But the environmental holocaust denier crowd seems to believe that this has no consequence.

Which makes me wonder: do these people not believe in chemistry?

Thank you, thank you. It's difficult to follow this debate in the media because it moves so quickly and the information is technical enough that is is either difficult to understand, badly reported, or both.
