After moving to the US in &#039;97, I felt that the only purpose of an American citizen is its (yes, not him or her, ITS) ability to produce money for the economic engine..meaning, the corporations. quality of life? perish the thought that people come first. Of course, when the model shifts from &#039;the people&#039; to factually &#039;the corporations&#039;, you have to use propaganda tools in order for people to be lulled into complacency. Naturally, consumerism has the great by-product to doing that as well.
Interesting read, eventhough &#039;dated&#039; (written in the 50s) is Jacques Ellul&#039;s &#039;Truth or Propaganda&#039;..
