Oh, the Bull & Bush. *sigh*

(Thought I'd mention that the Rocky Mountain Bloggers are hosting a free, open to anyone, blogger bash on the 28th for any and all bloggers in town for the DNC. Yeah, free Wynkoop beer. For a little while, at least. :)

Great Divide Brewing puts up a number of good beers that cover the full range of malty to hoppy, light to dark. I tried their Samurai Ale on a lark once - it looked interesting, and I occasionally enjoy ricey beers like Tsingtao, Ichiban, and Kirin - and found that I enjoyed this rice beer's flavor. The Wild Raspberry Ale is also worth a taste if you enjoy fruity beers.

Boulder Brewing is Colorado's first microbrewery, and while The Pub, the restaurant attached to the brewery, is located up in Boulder, you can buy Boulder beers all around town, and often in the various Rock Bottom establishments Sam mentioned above. There's a reason for that - Boulder Brewery is in a strategic alliance with Rock Bottom. The best Boulder beer is by far the unfiltered and very hoppy Hazed and Infused dry-hopped ale. The next best is probably the Singletrack copper ale, and then Planet Porter is one of my darker stand-bys.

I've never been able to try Ska Brewing"s beers on tap, but their Ten-Pin Porter is very nice, and I find that their Steel Toe Stout (milk stout) gives Left Hand's a run for best local milk stout, and that's just based off bottles.

Twisted Pine makes some good beers, including their Hoppy Boy for those of you who love hops and, amazingly enough, the new Billy's Chilies chili pepper flavored beer. An acquired taste, perhaps, and it's got some serious chili kick, but if you ever tire of using beer to cut the burn from your Mexican food, give it a shot.

On the lighter side of Breckenridge Brewery's list is their Juju Ginger beer, great with Indian, Japanese, or Chinese food, or just for a very different flavor.

I'd also like to recommend another of Breckinridge's excellent brews to add to the list Slammy put up above, namely the Vanilla Porter. This was my first ever foray into vanilla flavored beers (it was on tap at an Old Chicago), and it remains to this day my favorite.

I've had some excellent beers from Bristol Brewing Company as well, especially their heavy and thick Winter Warlock Imperial Stout.

The Blake St. Tavern does, in fact, carry a very wide assortment of our beer, including 6 or 7 on tap at any given time (plus more in bottles).

If you're going to be in Denver on August 23rd, we will be having a punk rock benefit at 24th and Blake for Mike Freeman, a coworker of ours who was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor. We'll be donating all proceeds from the event to a special non-profit bank account to help Mike offset the cost of his rising medical fees.

Flying Dog Brewery, Great Divide Brewery and Breckenridge Brewery have all donated beer for the event, so come out and help someone in need!

for people interested in trying Flying Dog beers, i think the Blake Street Tavern (2401 Blake Street, just a couple blocks from Coors Field) has almost all of them available. more of a sports bar than i like, but the staff is friendly and there is a tiny but nice little patio.
also, to try Breckenridge brews at the actual brewery, along with some ok BBQ, head down to 5th and Kalamath. get a tour and visit the tasting room.
oh, and don;t forget Great Divide - i rather like their amber and they are located right down town on Arapahoe and, say, 21st...? something along those lines.... and they have a nice tasting room as well.
maybe i will just do a bar column and list some of my faves.... :)

I'll see if I can pull together a few other beer recommendations and put them up too, because while my tastes run mostly along the same lines as Slammy's, I've also been known to enjoy hops from time to time.

I can personally vouch for Bull & Bush and Pint's, two of the three best watering holes in the Denver area (the third being the distant Dry Dock Brewery in Aurora).m
