When people accuse McClellan of "too little, too late," they fail to understand how far he's come. His "conversion" must not be underestimated.

I have no sympathy with his supposed hero worship of W. Absurd naivete my ass. At best, it was self-serving willful ignorance... although to his credit, he appears to have been a rat with a breaking point.

I liked the book, though, and agree that the glimpses of Rove are better than a Thomas Harris novel.

Funny thing about PR people (and I used to be one). They tend to come in two types: those who'd sell their children into sexual slavery to get 1/4" on the latest executive promotion in the local rag, and those who to change the world for the better through their artful "communications skills" (two words I have come to loathe).

If you're the President, you want the former (Rove), not the latter. Sometimes, it takes the latter folks a while to get it. When they do, the absurd naivete and disillusionment often leads to books like this one.

Great review!
