There is precedence here for the Green Party workers and others aquitted in Norfolk for damage to GM crops. and also in Ireland where the Ploughshare protestors were aquitted for damaging US aircraft. This court acknowledged that the USUK attack on Iraq was illegal and a war-crime, (as does almost all independent legal advice, including in the US) so Bush admin. personel are finding their overseas travel increasingly restriced (as we saw Rumsfeld running out of Germany to avoid arrest)
Juries rely on evidence aswell as presentations by both sides.

While I applaud Green Peace's motives I deplore many of their methods which all to frequently border on terrorism. Cases like this SHOULD be overturned on appeal to prevent them from doing something truly stupid, like sabotaging something that results in someones death due to "unforeseen consequences".

I was really surprised by the acquittal, actually. I figured that something like this would have to be more specific in the law for it to work. I wonder if the prosecution just plain sucked in the Greenpeace case, or if they were hopefully outclassed by the Greenpeace defense attorney/attorneys.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if this case was appealed.
