Maybe, maybe not. Take out the first two income measures and focus just on ed and the arts and they get considerably redder.

Hmmm. OK. I think I get it. But I wonder what it would look like if you normalized to cost of living in each state. Yeah...more time. Those figures are giving me a head ache, though. If you let your eyes go out of focus, the red states jump out at you like one of those 3-D magic eye pictures. That's kinda scary. :)

On teacher salaries, the 29 blue jurisdictions pay higher than the 22 reds. If you had lots and lots of data (and lots and lots of time) you could no doubt sort even more interesting results from all this. Sadly, I have to work for a living... :|

I was hoping it was per capita. I was just checking. And I got the blue vs. red on the first figure. I'm talking about all the other figures. For instance, what does blue vs. red really mean when you are talking about teacher salaries? There has to be a threshold where you said, teachers getting paid at least x amount voted blue.

Ed numbers are per capita - flat numbers wouldn't mean anything. And what the numbers mean is explained - the top 29 jurisdictions are blue, the bottom 22 are red.

Come on, Mike - you're killing me here... :)

Is that higher education figure per capita? Or just a count? And for all of them, since you're just doing two colors (as opposed to a scale) it would be informative if you included where you set your thresholds. Right now, I don't really know what any of those figures really mean.
