They might not be manageable, but they’d probably be lethal

Unfortunately the "might not be manageable" is the operative phrase. Nisour Square is poster Massacre but a large part of the sort of mindset you get to when the most extreme RWA traits are reinforced to the detriment of actual professional thinking.

I don't know, Lex. A "pure, Christian military" would have a vast reservoir of seething resentment and repressed instinct to draw upon. They might not be manageable, but they'd probably be lethal - at least until the schisms erupted.

Shit....Lind should just be happy that anyone is still signing up: gay, straight, whatever. After having eight years to see how badly we're liable to treat you after you've given at least your innocence if not a limb or life, it's a wonder that recruitment hasn't fallen off the table.

As to women serving, the WWII era Red Army provides a pretty good negative example for Lind's argument...of course those were angry Russian women, and that's the last thing anyone should want to tangle with.

This idea of forming a pure, Christian military is the silliest god-damned thing i've ever heard.

I served 5 years in the Army, one of which was spent in Iraq, and I must have told hundreds of people that I was gay and slept with a (dis)respectable percentage of the same, from my initial training all the way through my ETS. And you know what? Nobody gave a damn. Ever. Hell, the only person in my Company who *didn't* know by way of necessity was the First Sergeant. And truth be told, I really don't think she'd have given a damn either.

I can't decide whether it's terribly amusing or just plain sad that the only people I ever meet who complain about gays in the military are the ones who never seemed to put on a uniform, aside from a smattering of tired old Jesus-toting shitbags whose opinions are growing more obsolete every day.

Hmmm...let me see...

During WWII, there were Japanese soldiers in the army, and it was difficult to integrate them into the troops, so they were put into Japanese battalion(s?).

Same went for Italians, Germans, and I f I recall correctly, orthodox Jews (imagine how confused the German army members where when they heard the Jewish troops speaking Yiddish. Yiddish is to the Germans kind of like what Shakespearean English is to us.

Imagine the uniforms and the stylized marching! On the other hand, enemy male troops might fight to the death before being taken prisoner by a gay company. The Village People didn't have a prison guard, but I think you get the picture.

Imagine the enthusiasm an angry lesbian might feel toward male enemy soldiers...oh dear.

Yup, Lara is indeed right on. I remember from basic training all the gung-ho types who where gone within the first few weeks because they couldn't hack it. They were all an awful lot like the 28% supporting bush these days.

Mimes are also physically prepared for direct placement into elite commando training. But I don't know anything about their sexual preferences.

Oddly enough, as a military brat, I remember the ones who wanted to prove they were "real men" were the worst performers. They would wash out, complain about how it wasn't fair they had to keep weight, etc. They thought it was going to be one big action movie (and I fear for anyone who had to be near them when they actually held a firearm). The guys who were there for an education, sense of duty, or providing for their family were the ones who did well.

You want a good military person, find the one who is mailing a check home to his mom every pay day to cover bills.
