An old book that fascinated me was one my grandmother passed down to me when I was about 12 -- a medical book on World War I injuries with photos of the soldiers prior to treatment.

"bringing The Anatomy and Physiology Coloring Book to market ..."

That was my favorite coloring book as a child! The detail was so absorbing, and all the Latin and Greek words were like a code to crack. I didn't care for coloring books in general, but this one provided the little me dozens of hours of relaxation and puzzle-solving. Gosh, haven't thought of that book in years.

Sounds like, with friends like McMurtry, books don't need any more enemies.

No one reads more books than me (except Chris Mackowski). But bibliophilia is just too anal for me.

The physical artifact is as holy as the thoughts which it contains...but take that with a grain of salt if you want, as it comes from someone who grew up visiting the printing company that his mother works for and later put in some time in multiple departments. I still hold single pages up to the light in bookstores to check back up and thumb the spine looking for air bubbles in the glue. And if i have a decent ruler handy i'll check gutter margins and the like.

Saying, "Well, i made 30,000 books today is balm for the bibliophile's soul." Chuckling for a whole shift imagining the collegiate hell you're invoking by bringing The Anatomy and Physiology Coloring Book to market isn't too bad either.

Y'know, the WordsDay banner is so nice, but why is it so small? Is it because no one ever figured out all the authors on it?

As a bibliophile (distinct from a bibliophiliac), I'm just now getting into all the technical aspects of the books I buy and enjoy, aside from the perennial "hardcover vs. paperback" debate.
