The lamest show in the history of television

I had never heard of it before this morning, but there’s apparently a mental condition known as the “Truman Show Delusion.” People afflicted with this malady believe that they’re living in a reality show about their lives.

Two doctor/brothers, Joel and Ian Gold, have identified symptoms of a mental illness unique to our times: the Truman Show delusion, named for the 1998 movie that starred Jim Carrey as a suburbanite whose movements were filmed 24/7 and broadcast to the world. The two say a handful of individuals are convinced they are stars of an imaginary reality show. Full story »

‘Tis the Season for Cookies

They seemed innocuous enough—pre-cut circles of cookie dough, maybe an inch in diameter, with pictures of snowmen in the center.

They came on a sheet of cardboard backing, in a plastic bag, in a flat box no bigger than a sheet of paper. How could so much tasty goodness come in such a small package?

As I opened the plastic bag, the circles tumbled off their cardboard backing and landed, with thick plops, on the kitchen countertop. I just had to spread them on an ungreased cookie sheet, pop them into the oven for nine minutes, and voila! Pillsbury Christmas cookie deliciousness. Full story »
