New Leaf

New Leaf

I rather like what Oscar Wilde is said to have uttered about good resolutions being simply checks that men draw on a bank where there is no account.

Will you make an list of resolutions for 2009? I wish much success to those that do – but I forgo the ritual. It’s not about improving myself, so much as it is about the proximate motivation. Without a real goal – like fear of a new swimsuit – I tend to fall off the wagon.

Also – during January my fitness classes are jammed full of resolute people. Life improves and I can get my class floor space back in February! Well, perhaps I am looking at this all wrong. I wonder if Nike sales boom in January, or sales of smoking cessation products have their best month in January, or Weight Watchers makes most of it’s annual revenue in the next 30 days? Resolutions could be very good for business.

I toast you all with my glass of wine – hand me that brownie will you?

A wonderful photo, and wise sentiment. Thank you, Dawn.

    Hopes, yes. Resolutions, no.

I like the leaves. And you’ve made me really want a new digital camera, Dawn.
