Beach Log Colors

Beach Log Colors

The last few days have been foggy and chilly. The fog has been dense; refusing to yield to whatever sun lurks above it. This morning it rolled up the hill from the sound in visible waves. It’s been so thick that the ferry boat is invisible – a disembodied fog horn in the murk.

The beach logs were beautiful this morning. Their natural rich colors enhanced by the dampness and the surrounding grayness. It struck me as a reminder that we can find beauty and color in even the dullest surroundings – if we choose to look.

It behooves us to look, no? Especially when we can capture our sight and share it.

I love driftwood/beach logs. The confluence of wood and water makes poetry. I saw one recently that was completely encased in clear ice, magnifying and distorting the grain like some sort of alien gemstone.

Russ and Lex – Thanks. I hope you took a picture of the log entombed in ice. How cool. I have an enormous collection of beach wood/log pictures. I never tire of the endless expressions of color, partial bark, smooth wood, grain, markings, shapes of roots – and on and on. It’s nature’s sculpture garden.

i have a lot of pictures of wood and bark, too. unfortunately, i don’t have a macro lens yet, so most of them are less than stellar. i’ve thinking of doing something what you did for ages, but i never seem to get around to it. :-/ same thing with rocks.
