I think Stewart suffers from a standard liberal fear of the military, and let's it extend to cabin boys like Ricks.

I was annoyed (after having read this) that Stewart was seemingly giving this guy a platform more than anything. I'd have thought Jon would have tore him up.. now my favorite news show isn't even being all that informative anymore (well, one interview shouldn't shake my foundations, but I'm obviously going to question things more now).

I also found it interesting (from the interview) that the idea of paying people to be nice was very well received by the military and "terrorists", but people won't take the time to understand that welfare in America isn't all that much different... paying people to keep them from being violent against you while you loot others around you.. Mission accomplished, indeed.

I did, Steve. Shudder. He was positively giddy about the prospect of us staying in Iraq forever.

Scary shit of the "hail Caesar" variety. I'm really uncomfortable with the amount of political (including public opinion forming) power that the DoD has granted itself, because it is obvious that they're convinced by the reverberations of their own echo chamber that they have the solutions.

The next step is a decision on their part to implement those solutions for our own good.

Thanks for the nice words, Doc. This is a tricky thing. On the surface, the Ricks work looks like an expose. But it's all insider information he's been fed, and he's carrying the message in loud and clear terms the generals can't express.

Scary.
