This is a very good article.The Right Wing radio talk show hosts are behind the Tea Parties and are funded by the Religious Right,and they are trying to start a revolution.Whether violent or not, I don’t think they really care,as long as they can turn America into a theocrasy,which is thier ONLY GOAL! Then you will really see a war,once people finally figure out that EVERY SINGLE ASPECT of thier lives will be dictated and controlled by lying,theiving,MURDERING,whacked out religious nut jobs that will make the Puritans look like a bunch of hippies!

And then I remembered my childhood.

I’m not much older than you, but I’m just enough older to vividly remember the age of American assassination, and I can tell you that it sucked. Hey, I grew up thinking that’s just how politics work, ya know? If you get powerful, someone is going to kill you, or at least give it the old college try.

I think we got lucky in those days. Somehow, the brakes kicked in and the madness receded. I don’t count on being so lucky again.

The thing our disingenous apologist is eliding is that the far right considers the Weekly Standard bunch much too far to the left. (The really extreme ones like von Brunn even think FOX News is a Marxist plot.)

And they despise neo-cons for most of the same reasons we do: they believe they’re economic royalists who’ve run the country into the ground. That point of agreement is hard to see through the thick layer of anti-Semitic icing they’ve smeared all over it, but the basic critique has some strong similarities.

Yeah, JJJJJJJJJ. When you look at the guy’s Web site and his extensive collection of writings, I don’t think there’s any reasonable conclusion you can come to other than “he was a raging liberal nutjob.”

Also, I’ve been reviewing the history of Stalin. Have you noticed how you never saw him and Mother Teresa in the same place at the same time?

You're assuming that she's talking about just Von Brunn, which is hardly the case. She's talking about the massive number of right-winger caused shootings that have occurred since Obama took office around the country. Sara documented this in a previous post here: 7 other incidents, and the frequency of incidents is accelerating.

To some degree feeding the crazies helps, politically. When you let your crazies run free it makes the slightly less crazies appear staid and rational.

The left doesn’t let its crazies run free… “Shut up with your marijuana decriminalization and your single-payer health care wishes because you’re making us triangulaters seem like raging leftists. Why can’t you be a Nice Polite Republican too? And now that we’re in power we don’t want to hear any more of this anti-war thing, because you’re cramping our imperial style.”

And then the nation as a whole takes a half-shuffle step to the right.

Ms. Robinson has sort of crystallized the zeitgeist on this particular issue in a compelling and convincing way. She takes some of the thoughts a lot of us have been having and puts them together succinctly.
It is really frightening and quite depressing how thoroughly and accurately predicted it was that these events would occur.

Too bad that your entire premise is flawed from the get go.

The FBI says Von Brunn was on his way to kill the Neo-Cons at the Weekly Standard after he finished up at the Holocaust Museum. Thus, it sounds to me like he was one of your boys, especially given how many anti-semites (always careful to call themselves “anti-Zionists”) are found on the left.

But, then we shouldn’t be surprised that an unstable individual like Von Brunn would be influenced by the hateful rhetoric poured out by the likes of Keith Olbermann.

Great article. I’ve wondered the same thing. I’m also aware that those who ramp up rhetoric until people start to kill are often the victims of their own “revolution.” I have this great fear that some other nutcase is going to start gunning down Fox News personnel and demand that O’Reilly stop broadcasting, or will go after Ann Coulter’s publishers or the Board of Directors of a company that sponsors LImbaugh.

I hope it’s an unfounded fear.
