I was simply stating fact. We’re only left with Neil Young (it looks like) and three yet-to-be-determined others.

What one knows will happen and what one hopes will happen are different things. I haven’t complained about all the upsets, because there’s a great argument to be made in many cases. It’s when the voting doesn’t even pretend to be about who’s the greater band that I get annoyed.

I don’t think NY is one of the top four people in rock history. I would certainly put him below Dylan. But Dylan seems to have lost to the Police (a huge Xer vote, perhaps ). Young beat U2 because a fan group voted for him en masse. Why the Clash beat Nirvanna is unknown to me. Neither are boomer bands if you believe what the boomers have had to say about it on these boards.

But this is why you had the contest, right? What would be the point if the outcome was clear from the beginning?

Look, you can gripe about the seeds, but the top four were The Beatles, Dylan, U2 and Zep. One side looks more loaded than the other because…well, because our voters insisted that The Police and Neil Young were more deserving. Not much I could have done about that unless I’d had a crystal ball….
