Lord Monckton labels climate activists "Hitler youth"

Americans for Prosperity (AFP) hosted a speech by Christopher Lord Monckton, a UK climate disruption denier, at Copenhagen yesterday. According to a report on the event at It’sGettingHotInHere.org, there were only five attendees that weren’t AFP employees – until around 50 US youth climate activists showed up, took over the stage, and proceeded to hold up signs and chant “Real Americans for Prosperity are Americans for Clean Energy” from the stage behind Monckton, who continued his speech despite the disruption.

Until he drifted off message and said:

You are listening now to the shouts in the background of the Hitler youth.

The following YouTube video has Monckton saying “Hitler youth” twice, but you can skip to the last 20 seconds or so if you aren’t interested in sitting through the entire thing.

As someone who’s studied the Nazis, I think we can safely add the history of Nazism right under climatology on the list of things Monckton is ignorant of.

However, the more interesting point is that Monckton publicly cracked. It’s one thing to say intemperate things about your ideological opponents in private email correspondence that you never intend to make public, but it’s something else entirely to do the same in a public forum. Clearly, when being badgered, even a practiced speaker like Monckton can get frustrated and publicly say things that are intemperate at best.

The way I see it, climate disruption deniers have only two courses of action they can take. Either they can condemn Monckton’s intemperate public remarks just as they have condemned the private intemperate remarks of climate scientists in the illegally-obtained CRU email archives. Or they can forgive Monckton his public remarks and similarly forgive the climate scientists their private remarks as well.

Forgiving Monckton but condemning the CRU climatologists would be hypocritical.

  1. “Or they can forgive Monckton his public remarks and similarly forgive the climate scientists their private remarks as well.”
your logic is astounding… colluding to commit scientific fraud for the creation of trillions of global taxation dollars vs calling brainwashed ‘awarmists’ who believed the propaganda from the false data nazi youth is absolutely NO COMPARISON

    • There has been no proof of any collusion, any fraud, or any conspiracy. No paper’s data or conclusions have been found to be falsified. The American Meteorological Society and Nature have published statements that there is nothing in the emails that meets their standards for opening an investigation into scientific misconduct by the CRU scientists. The IPCC papers that were discussed regarding keeping them out of the IPCC AR4 WG1 report were actually in the report. The only truly damning thing in those emails is a discussion to delete emails to avoid providing information in response to an information request, and thus far there’s several investigations into whether any emails were actually deleted. At least one of the scientists involved has publicly stated that he didn’t delete any emails.

If you have proof of fraud, provide it. If you know of papers that are based on false data, provide them. If you don’t, then stop making unfounded accusations. Put up, or shut up.

I agree with you that there’s no comparison, though – Monckton knowingly called his opponents “Hitler youth” in a public forum. The CRU scientists called their opponents idiots and assholes privately, with no expectation that their comments would become public. Clearly, we can forgive the CRU scientists more easily than we can Monckton.

  2. Climate gate should be called Algo-date. Why? Because what the scientists are trying to do, since we only have temperature data going back to about 1850, is create an algorithm so they can figure out the past temperature cyclee. They are using tree rings and ice cores to find out what the temperatures were in the past. The data from 1850 forward we do know.

IE in order to create a climate model they scientists must plug in information so they can create the best climate model possible,

I am not worried about the cliimate change personally as it will change due to precession and obliquity along with other factors such as the sunspot cycles.

  3. Nothing more than delusional sheeps to the slaughter. give away their sovereignty, their lives for a lie under the guise of protection, and a perverted perspective of purpose(saving the planet? sure.). Mandated government emission control? Sad. If mankind survives the 21st century that will be impressive. if the conspiracist tales of alien invastion, Nubiru, the Annaki or any of the outlandish alien and extra dimensional races hold any legitimate weight I would not mind if mankind was wiped out or enslaved for its disgusting behavior.

  4. I’d love to see the emails of these so called “scientists” denying the obvious… I bet they go right to FOX News Channel and ClearChannel Communications.

  5. I love to see those is power cry when the plebs get out of line. The “Hitler Youth” disrupted our event of lies, nonsense and propaganda. We know the climate deniers position,” do nothing and allow us to burn and destroy everything because climate change is natural.” They have a few scientists bought and paid for by the oil industry, to muddy the waters, but are mostly business people telling the rest of us to grab our ankles. If they had any real evidence it would be everywhere since every powerful interest in the world would like the issue of climate change to disappear.

  6. JC – am I correct in interpreting your “giving away their sovereignty” comment to mean that you agree with Monckton’s claim that climate change is a convenient way to bring about a New World Order?

  7. Actually, the new world order is not so far fetched of an idea. Many economic signs are pointing in this direction, and the bond market’s action suggests something’s up.
