Apparenlty Chrissie Hynde's vegan restaurant in Akron is still open. Who would have thought there were enough vegans in Akron to support a restaurant? Then again it does specialize in Italian food.

For those who aren't vegans, like I am, you'd be surprised how good some of the vegan stand-ins for cheese and meat are.

My favorite link this week: congrats to Hofstra. There are WAY too many schools out there who are trying to live the athletics dream instead of focusing on being schools. In some cases (as with the university where I used to be a professor) you have a school that ought to be D-III just killing itself to play D-I, and then you have places that should be developing a robust intramural program and nothing more trying to succeed in intercollegiate.

I love sports and have been an athlete my whole life, so this isn't about hating on athletics. It's about understanding the proper place of sport in the life of a university community.
